Colorado potato beetle walking on the servosphere. A piece of reflective material is fixed on the elytra in order to observe the beeles’ displacement by a detector. Walking is compensated by two motors which roll the sphere in the opposite direction, so the beetle stays on top of the sphere (Visser & Thiery, 1985; Thiery & Visser, 1986, see page 9). |
